Greenspan Projects Ltd., a creative design and build specialist, has created two innovative indoor golf courses for Drive Shack’s Puttery in New York, US. Drive Shack Inc. owns and runs over 50 golf courses in the US, including four 72 and 96-bay hitting facilities. Puttery, its new competitive socializing attraction, has quickly become popular across the country. Every Puttery location has between 18,000 and 24,000 square feet of space, complete with lounges, seating areas, and a fully equipped kitchen and bar. There are two to four nine-hole, themed courses with integrated technology at each location. Players can monitor their scores on the touchscreens at each hole. Its latest location in New York’s Meatpacking District extends across five levels and 24,000 square feet. The attraction features three bars, including a rooftop bar that’s open all year round, and an underground speakeasy lounge. It offers two nine-hole mini-golf courses, Night in the Museum and The Lodge, which both feature digital scoring technology. The large onboarding space, including pillars and marble-effect flooring, immerses players in the feel of a historical museum. Fictional histories and anachronisms add interest and interactivity, while not detracting from the golf play. Greenspan Projects Drive Shack’s Puttery golf courses The course consists of eight zones: Colosseum, Royalty, Roman Empire, Art History, Sparta, Mayan Temple, Egyptian Tombs, Ancient Egypt, and Marine Fossils. As players move between each hole they enter an exhibit and become a part of it, instead of simply seeing it from the outside. Lucy Barton, senior creative manager, says: “It has been a pleasure to work on another exciting and unique project for Puttery! This time around, we had the opportunity to develop a brand-new theme from scratch. “Night in the Museum” was created to bring a love of history and magic under one roof. The key for us was to create an exquisitely authentic and historically correct journey that takes the customer through different eras and time-periods – all while playing golf! “The scheme was devised around a central focal feature that is visible as soon as you enter the reception space framed by tall, majestic pillars. The rest of the course was then designed around this. We wanted the customer to feel opulence, detail and the clear definition of stepping between one exhibit to another. Playability was crucially designed to enhance and further tell the stories of each zone!” Ski nostalgia The Lodge has a warm and inviting theme and has become a guest favourite. This course has been refined and fine-tuned to become a showpiece, with a chalet filled with family memories and character, a roaring fire, toasting s’mores, and a bubbling hot tub. Greenspan Projects Drive Shack’s Puttery golf courses the lodge The Lodge’s most popular elements remain unchanged, including the cosy wall-length fireplace, custom ski characters, real wood panelling, and opportunities for selfies in the ski lift. In addition, the course now features a secret wine cellar stocked with the best “Puttery Vino” bottles and piled high with wine barrels. Greenspan Projects has also built a patio area with a hot tub and a sizzling fire pit, which combine with the golf course’s playability to create a memorable experience.
